Bachelor’s education – USA or Europe?

a

Given the stark differences between the education systems in USA and Europe and the lack of proper information to study (at the Bachelor’s level) in Europe, it is important to know facts about studying in either of these locations.

General Education is considered as ‘essential’ in US universities, which covers a broad range of programs such as Music, photography, sports and many other co-curricular and extra-curricular fields of activity. This will impart a strong base of students to study a wide range of programs – not only those that are academically important, but also personally interesting. Additionally, general education emphasizes skills such as writing and critical thinking and expose students to a variety of subject areas. Also, students can choose a major after two years of studying, in the meanwhile explore their field of interest.

In European countries, this type of general education is not available and students who are joining the Bachelor’s programs are expected to ‘choose’ a focus area while applying for colleges. This will severely restrict the learning capability of students who may want to explore more areas and wider fields of learning to decide on their career direction.  While it helps to choose a subject from the start and able to focus on those areas in-depth and prepare for the job market or for continuing onto a master’s degree, it also has its disadvantages”.

European bachelor’s degrees are three-year programs that are too structured, which doesn’t give students a lot of freedom to explore.

Also, ‘liberal arts’ education emphasizing on learning in subjects such as social sciences, arts, and humanities are available in all US universities/colleges, whereas European universities rarely offer such an option. This restricts the learning ability and choice of students, who want to explore multiple options before they decide on a particular ‘major’ or specialization to continue with their studies. Of course, for international students who are ready with a focus, going for a 3-year degree, directly into their chosen field of study could be an advantage.

Another advantage is US colleges is the scope to internationalize their learning, participation in various events through student-clubs and a better campus life. Comparatively, European colleges offer limited scope for such wider participation and exposure.

Most importantly, except in the UK, almost all other countries offer education in their native language (non-English), which is a major deterrent for Bachelor’s applicants. While most European universities are offering Master’s level education in English, very few are offering at the Bachelor’s level. Such problem does not exist in US universities since the medium of education is only English.

Finally, for those international students with merit, financial aid is possible even at the Bachelor’s level in most US universities. Though rare and difficult, funding is a good possibility for top-performing students here. Whereas, in Europe, financial aid is virtually difficult, if not impossible.

It is therefore important for international students to choose the country/continent to make a very informed decision to invest huge sums of money into their education and ultimately their career.

The idea of surviving a foreign land and language had held my fascination since then. Little did I know that four years and a little daughter later, I will embark on this adventure myself.  My work was at a point where it needed a robust model insect, technical expertise and laboratory facilities to work on the challenges of realizing RNAi as species-specific, environment-friendly insecticides. I was inspired by the work of my now co-supervisor at the University of Osnabrueck and the ‘DAAD Sandwich Scholarship’ seemed the logical choice… Read more

Yes, it’s not raining water in Hyderabad. It’s raining Visas – more specifically US Student Visas!

In the last two working days, Manhattan Review (MR) students have received TEN Visas!! We, at MR are extremely pleased for our students and their parents who have spent their valuable time, money and energy to work towards education in USA.

Especially during these troubled times when there is no clarity about certain policies on OPT and employment scenario in USA, the number of students who are successful in getting visas is a big morale booster for all.

It shows (and proves) that good students aiming for higher education at better universities are always welcome to USA. This has been the case always and it is firmly established now.

So, cheer up and if you have not started already, jump onto the US education bandwagon. Obviously, USA is second to none in best education, employment and career opportunities.

Visa News

Fantastic News for all Manhattan students. Our applicants are receiving visas from the US consulate is large numbers. We have more than 50 students lined up in the next few days. All in all, the situation for visas is quite encouraging and we hope to have most of our students in the USA very soon, to start their education from Fall onwards.

All the negative publicity about the US government’s policies affecting students and their education in USA is proving to be unfounded. Proof of the situation otherwise is in the number of student visas being issued by the US Consulates across India.

Be ready to read better news very soon.

MBA in other destinations

A survey reveals that the percentage of non-US citizens who say they are now less likely to study in the US has grown to 43% in April 2017 from 35% in November 2016. Similarly, a country-level analysis has revealed that Indian candidates are negatively influenced by the Brexit vote, with 58% reporting that it has made them less likely to study in the UK.

Countries such as Canada, Australia, Germany and New Zealand seem to be gaining from the waning sentiment towards the top two education destinations due to the closed climate.

A recent Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) survey states almost 59% of the applicants intend to apply for programs outside their home country.

Most students look to study abroad to receive a higher quality education (63% of the respondents), to increase their chances of securing international employment (58%), and to expand their international connections (51%).

Finally, 61% of the candidates think that MBA is ‘THE’ degree to aim and achieve – whether from USA or any other top destination in the world.

Manhattan offers highly specialized services in shortlisting Business Schools that suit students’ profile and requirements. And, our expert editing services are top-of-the-line! Awesome Australia

Awesome Australia

Australia’s international student enrolment hit a new high in 2016 to reach a total of 554,179 for the year. The latest data from the Australian Department of Education and Training reports this as a 10.9% year-over-year increase from 2015, against average annual growth of 6.5% per year over the past decade.

More than four out of every ten of those students (43%) were enrolled in Australian higher education, which saw overall growth of 13% for the year. The next-largest sectors were vocational education and training (VET), with 26% of all enrolment and nearly 12% growth for the year, and English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) which accounted for 21% of all foreign students and 4% growth.

International education exports hit a record AUS$21.8 billion, making it Australia’s third largest export after iron ore and coal.

In 2016, India has sent more than 78,000 students to Australia which is approx. 9% increase over 2015. Now, in 2017, the figures are expected to ‘hit the roof’, since many students are looking towards Australia for higher education, given the uncertainty in USA.

Nine out of ten students (89%) say they are “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with their experience of living and studying in Australia.

Nearly three quarters (74%) said that Australia was their first choice or overseas study with most indicating the that reputation of Australian education and personal safety and security were among the major factors in their choice.

With such positive response from the International student community, Australia becomes a ‘hot’ destination for studying at any level – be it Bachelor’s, PG Diploma or Master’s.

Best of all, Australia caters to all levels of students – both academic and financial – and the decision-making process on applications is very fast. Some universities give an admission decision in less than two weeks. And, there are four enrollments per year, for many programs in most universities.

What are you waiting for? If you are looking for quality education at an affordable cost and want to seek ‘Permanent Residence’ (PR) after your education, Australia is the country to jump in.

Please meet our counselors for FREE ADMISSION SERVICE to Australia and be assured or landing in Australia very soon!

USA – Study, training and Work: Latest updates

USA - Study, training and Work- Latest updates

There are a lot of misconceptions and rumors that are circulating amongst the international student community, who wish to study and later work in USA.

In this Newsletter, we are looking at the ‘actual’ and practical information given by successful applicants for USA H1B Visa.

Quite a few Indian applicants who have studied their Master’s in USA and have been working in the USA after their Optional Practical Training have visited India in recent times and applied for H1B Visa.

Almost all the applicants have their H1B visas approved for THREE YEARS.

From our conversation with some of them, it was clear that the visa interview was mostly about if they (the applicant) had studied in USA and working with a company directly, instead of through consultants.

Also, there was a discussion with the US Consulate staff, in one of the popular news channels. The officials have categorically stated that there will be absolutely no problem for students to study and work in USA.

What does all this mean?

  • For genuine students who want to obtain international qualifications from USA, the doors are always open.
  • There are NO RESTRICTIONS on students to obtain Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) at all. In other words, no changes in law have been envisaged for CPT or OPT.
  • If the students obtain an American Degree in USA, they will be eligible to apply for H1B visa. As per a proposal, applicants who study in USA will be preferred for the H1B visa
  • Since there will be no lottery system from next year (2018) and the number of applicants will be restricted, it becomes easier for applicants to get their H1B easier than now!
  • With a H1B visa on hand, one can work for three years initially and extend it for another three years as per present rules.

So, study in USA to get a world-class degree and gain practical work experience and employment for a very BRIGHT FUTURE!

What’s stopping you now? Just visit our Manhattan Review’s center nearest to you and prepare to fly!

Wish you good luck.

Busted! Myths About OPT, STEM and H1B VISA for US bound Student’s

Untitled design (51)

  1. For STEM Student’s OPT has been fixed at 12 months. This is untrue.

The law suit has been dismissed. You are permitted to work for 36 months in US after completion of your MS degree. The earlier law is still in existence. Myth number one busted. All the rules regarding to STEM will remain valid. Once approval is granted a recommendation with authorization (legal documnent) is offered. You can work without any worry in US. It gives clarity on US education, which has maximum appeal all across the world. India’s rank is second in student’s getting enrolled for higher education in US. This is phenomenal.

  1. The issuing of additional H1B VISA fot STEM Student’s has been cancelled. No.

MS graduate student’s with higher education degrees are given an offer of special quota with the H1B work VISA application. Presently, 20,000 special quota is still available in adding up to 65,000 under general quota. It is an attractive VISA policy. Myth number two busted. Their is a constant demand for engineers in US. The advantages can be fully exploited for further growth in employment status in US. It gives glorious opportunities to several ambitious student’s to fulfill their life’s passions. The Indian student’s certainly hold an edge over others in critical reasoning and data analysis. It is a morale booster for all the US bounds student’s.

  1. Indians being prevented by President Trump to get H1B VISA.

The prime decision maker in US, President Donald Trump has signed an executive order, which focuses on preventing misuse of H1B work permit VISA. This is done by companies that outsource their work programs by filing for multiple H1B applications. This in turn uses up the existing additional H1B quota. However, with a strict regulation on IT companies, the student’s with advanced degree applications will have more opportunities opening up for employment. Another myth dismissed. There are many attractive jobs in diverse fields.Trump or no Trump demand for work force in US is bound to grow. The process could be further simplified. The media projections are all false.

  1. The lottery system of granting H1B VISA is not valid anymore. Not true.

The current intentions of the Trump administration is to replace it with a more favorable system based on merritt. In it the student’s with better marks in higher education degrees, including those getting higher salary packages will be preferred first. Myth number four busted. Bright student’s will now find new windows opening up to hire them with bigger salaries. They can richly develop their work experience for a better bargain in the next company. It will offer unrestircted access in the job market. Highly skilled graduation student’s can apply without any fears. Companies with global reach stand to lose nothing. The newly established Trump administration is looking to offer the best to every bright student.

Abbreviation for:
