Indians and the STEM – The number of Indian students in American universities and colleges is nearing two lakh as latest official data released on Friday said that they now number over 194,000, a jump of more than 31% in one year.
“The number of F&M students from India studying in the US grew from 148,360 in March 2015 to 194,438 in March 2016, an increase of 31.1%“according to SEVIS officials. There are nearly 1.2 million international students with F (academic) or M (vocational) status studying in the US. Based on data extracted from SEVIS March 7, international student enrollment at US schools increased 6.2% compared to March 2015.
According to the report, 82% of F & M students from India pursue degrees in a STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field. “More STEM students are from India than any other country“ it said.
On the other hand, 69% of all F & M students who pursue mathematics and statistics coursework are from China, it said. ICE report said 40% of international students studying in the US, equaling almost 479,000 individuals, were enrolled in STEM coursework.
Port of entry issues – We all know that the US consulate issues a visa after an interview in India. But, do you know that there will be another ‘interview’ in the port of entry, after landing in USA? This interview is important and much more critical than the one in India. While the ‘visa’ stamped here is only a “permission to enter US”, the actual stamping in the port of entry within US is the actual and official authorization to enter and study in the USA. Based on the answers and response of students, they could be allowed or denied entry. So, please make sure that when you are getting prepared for the visa interview here, be aware that there is another interview round in USA. Manhattan Review prepares all its enrolled students for not just the interview here, but also for the one in USA too.
